I have been consistently running for about 11 years now. I started racing in 2005 and have done some fun races. My all-time favorite race was back in 2005 on New Year's Eve. I was visiting my parents on Catawba Island, found out about this neat little race called the Midnight Special 5K and drove out to Whitehouse, OH to check it out.
The race starts at 11:45pm on 12/31 on a dark, paved path. At midnight, fireworks are let off and the sky is filled with sparkle, leading you to the finish line. You are entertained for the rest of the race. They hand you a glass of champagne as you cross the finish line and the age group awards are champagne flutes. It is very cool concept. I would like to do it again someday and break my Midnight Special 5K course PR. I ran it in 28:07 putting in 100% effort - I think it is doable :)

Sounds like a great race! Maybe we should get someone to organize something similar here... :)
ReplyDeletePS, definitely doable.
That is amazing! I still don't think I could run a race at midnight on NYE, but if you put it on, I'd consider it :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a really fun race! With the number of races in the DC area, I'm surprised that there isn't something similar around here.
ReplyDeleteThis race sounds awesome!! I wish every town did a race like this! :) I'm at home, in FL, and did a bunch of research for a fun NYE or NY day race but nothing appealed to me...
ReplyDeleteJust as your top three running purchases match mine, our running history is the same. I, too, have been running for 11 years and started racing in 2005. Your race sounds awesome. You should PR that course effortlessly!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great race concept. I may steal that one and try to put on something like that in my city :)
ReplyDeleteoh, how fun! i'd definitely be into a champagne stop!
